Safety Tips

At Aviato Travels, your safety and well-being are our top priorities. To ensure you have a seamless and worry-free journey across the beautiful landscapes of Sri Lanka, we have compiled these essential safety guidelines for all our travelers.

1. General Health & Personal Care

  • Stay Hydrated: Sri Lanka has a tropical climate. Always carry bottled water and stay hydrated throughout the day.

  • Sun Protection: Use high-SPF sunscreen, wear hats, and use sunglasses to protect yourself from the strong tropical sun, especially during beach stays and hikes.

  • Travel Insurance: We strongly recommend having comprehensive travel insurance that covers medical emergencies, trip cancellations, and adventure activities.
2. Wildlife & Nature Safety

  • Respect the Wildlife: During safaris, always stay inside the vehicle and maintain a safe distance from animals. Never attempt to feed or provoke wildlife.

  • Stay on Marked Trails: Whether you are hiking in Ella or exploring Sinharaja, always stick to designated paths and follow your guide’s instructions.

  • Weather Awareness: Be mindful of weather changes, especially during monsoon seasons. Some coastal and mountainous areas may have restricted access during heavy rains.
3. Cultural Etiquette & Respect

  • Dress Code: When visiting sacred sites and temples, ensure your shoulders and knees are covered. It is customary to remove shoes and hats before entering.

  • Photography: Always ask for permission before taking photos of locals. Avoid taking photos with your back turned to Buddha statues, as it is considered disrespectful.
4. Road & Transport Safety

  • Authorized Transport: Always use the professional transport services provided by Aviato Travels. If you explore on your own, use registered taxis or “PickMe/Uber” services.

  • Road Awareness: Traffic in Sri Lanka can be hectic. Always be cautious when crossing roads and use pedestrian crossings where available.
5. Money & Document Security

  • Keep Originals Safe: Store your passport and important travel documents in your hotel safe. Carry photocopies or digital versions on your phone.

  • Secure Your Belongings: Keep your valuables, such as jewelry and large amounts of cash, secure. Be mindful of your belongings in crowded public areas.
