Itinerary

Day 01 : Airport - Pinnawala - Kandy

Upon arrival at Bandaranaike International Airport, you will be warmly greeted by your personal Aviora Travels representative, who will accompany you as your Sri Lankan journey begins. Sit back and relax as you travel towards the picturesque hill capital of Kandy, enjoying your first glimpses of the island’s lush countryside.

On the way, we visit the famous Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage. Established in 1975, the sanctuary began with just seven orphaned elephants and has since grown into an important conservation centre. Here, you can observe these gentle giants at close range and watch them bathe and play in the nearby river — a truly heartwarming experience and a wonderful introduction to Sri Lanka’s wildlife heritage.

In the late afternoon, immerse yourself in Sri Lanka’s vibrant traditions with a colourful Kandyan cultural dance performance. The rhythmic drums, elegant costumes, and dramatic fire displays offer an authentic glimpse into the island’s rich cultural roots.

Day 02 : Kandy - Nuwara Eliya

After breakfast, begin your day with a guided city tour of Kandy, the last royal capital of Sri Lanka and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Surrounded by misty hills and steeped in history, Kandy still preserves its legends, traditions, and royal heritage.

Visit the sacred Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic (Dalada Maligawa), Sri Lanka’s most revered Buddhist shrine. The Temple houses the Sacred Tooth Relic of the Buddha, brought to the island in the 4th century AD. For centuries, this relic symbolized royal authority, and even today it remains a deeply spiritual and culturally significant site.

Enjoy a leisurely drive around the scenic Kandy Lake, built in 1798 by the last Sinhala king, and explore the lively local bazaar. You will also visit an arts & crafts centre and a gem museum, where you can observe skilled lapidaries shaping precious stones — a fascinating insight into Sri Lanka’s world-famous gem industry.

Later, leave the cultural heart of the island behind and journey towards the cool highlands of Nuwara Eliya. En route, stop to admire the beautiful Ramboda Falls, cascading gracefully amidst lush greenery.

Continue with a visit to a traditional tea factory. Discover the story behind world-renowned Ceylon Tea, from the careful plucking of tender leaves to the final processing stages. You will be guided through the factory by knowledgeable experts and even have the opportunity to try tea plucking yourself — a fun and memorable experience. Conclude with a freshly brewed cup of authentic Ceylon Tea at the tea lounge.

Upon arrival in Nuwara Eliya, check into your hotel and relax in the refreshing hill country climate.

Day 03 : Nuwara Eliya - Yala

After breakfast, enjoy a guided city tour of Nuwara Eliya, often affectionately called “Little England.” Nestled in Sri Lanka’s central highlands, this charming town is the heart of the island’s tea country and is known for having the coolest climate in Sri Lanka.

During your visit, you will notice the strong colonial influence that still defines the town’s character. Many historic buildings, quaint cottages, and beautifully maintained English-style gardens reflect its British heritage. Surrounded by rolling tea plantations and mist-covered hills, Nuwara Eliya offers a refreshing and peaceful atmosphere — a delightful contrast to the tropical lowlands.

After the city tour, continue your journey south towards the wildlife-rich region of Yala. En route, stop to admire the scenic Rawana Falls, one of the island’s most picturesque waterfalls, cascading dramatically along the roadside.

Arrive in Yala and check into your hotel, where you can relax and prepare for the exciting wildlife experiences ahead.

Day 04 : Yala - Hikkaduwa

Rise early this morning for an exciting jeep safari in Yala National Park, one of Sri Lanka’s most celebrated wildlife reserves. Stretching across vast forests, open grasslands, and tranquil lagoons along the Indian Ocean, Yala offers a truly authentic safari experience.

Accompanied by an experienced tracker, venture deep into the park in search of its most famous resident — the elusive Sri Lankan leopard. You may also encounter elephants roaming freely, crocodiles basking by the water’s edge, spotted deer, wild buffalo, and a remarkable variety of colourful birdlife. Every safari is unique, making it a thrilling and memorable highlight of your journey.

After your wildlife adventure, continue along the southern coast towards the historic city of Galle.

In the evening, unwind by the beach and enjoy the gentle sea breeze as the sun sets over the Indian Ocean — the perfect way to relax after an adventurous day.

Day 05 : Hikkaduwa - Galle - Colombo

After breakfast, enjoy a guided city tour of Galle, a charming colonial town along Sri Lanka’s southern coastline. The highlight of your visit is the magnificent Galle Fort, a UNESCO World Heritage Site originally built by the Portuguese and later extensively fortified by the Dutch in 1663. Surrounded by the Indian Ocean on three sides, the fort offers breathtaking coastal views and a unique blend of European and South Asian heritage.

Stroll through its narrow cobbled streets lined with beautifully preserved colonial buildings. Discover historic landmarks such as the Dutch Reformed Church, the iconic Galle Lighthouse, and the fascinating Galle Maritime Museum. The atmosphere inside the fort is relaxed and romantic, with boutique cafés, art galleries, and charming architecture at every turn — perfect for leisurely exploration.

After your visit, travel north to Sri Lanka’s lively commercial capital, Colombo.

In the evening, enjoy a city tour and some time for shopping. Colombo is a dynamic blend of modern skyline and colonial-era charm. Visit the popular seaside promenade at Galle Face Green, where locals gather to enjoy ocean views at sunset. Explore the peaceful Viharamahadevi Park, and experience the colourful energy of Pettah Market. For those who enjoy contemporary shopping, Colombo also offers stylish malls and international brands.
